“For we are where we are not” ~ Pierre-Jean Jouve, Lyrique
The series is not about what the sitters are doing but it is about the distraction of the task each has undertaken. It is a study about how we can all be taken to some other place through learning something new or by discovering a skill we never knew we had or by reflecting on a creative process. The final image are large prints (see exhibition photograph on the right). I’ll admit to having been intrigued by extending the tonal range of these digital images and part of my own distraction was working on ways to achieve this. In total there are around 12 images but these are the four I like the best. One of my research colleagues is working on Fried’s absorption and I really should have a conversation about how those ideas can be explored fully. But for now this remains a project that I’m unlikely to return to in the near future.
